Koska keittiö on nyt valmis, tässä kuvia ja tarinaa. Because kitchen is now ready here are pictures and some stories.

Tina oli useiden lautasten, kulhojen, vatien ja lusikoiden materiaali 1700-luvulla. Sen syrjäytti vasta lasin ja posliinin laajamittainen valmistus.

Pewter was the most common material for bowls, plates and spoons in the beginning of 18th century. It was gradually replaced by large scale production of glass and porcelain.

Ensimmäiset haarukat tulivat Suomeen jo 1500-luvulla, mutta ne yleistyivät vasta 1700-luvulla. Yleensä ne olivat kolmipiikkisiä ja ne olivat muuta materiaalia kuin hopeaa. Useimmiten vain lusikat olivat hopeisia. Kattaessa sekä lusikat että haarukat käännettiin alaspäin, jotta ilmassa oleva noki ei tahraisi niitä.

The first forks came to Finland in 14th century but they became more common only until 18th century. Usually they had three spikes and material was something else than silver. Only spoons were made of silver (if they were not pewter). When setting a table both spoons and forks were set upside down to avoid sooth which was all over in the air where open fires were used.

Koska sokeri oli harvinaista ylellisyyttä, se tarjottiin hopearasiasta, joka oli joskus jopa lukittava. Tässä talossa sokeriastioita on peräti monta.

Because sugar was a very rare luxury product, it was served from a silver case which also could include a lock. In this manor they have even many sugar cases.

Savutorvellinen tulisija kuului keittiöön itsestäänselvyytenä. Tulisijassa oli uuni ja kuvun alla oleva avoliesi. Ruoka kypsennettiin avotulella tai hiilloksella.

A funneled fireplace was a must. There was an oven and open fire under a dome. Food was cooked over an open fire or on embers.

Hiillos uunissa ja kas lattialle on pudonnut lätty...

Embers and oh, the maids have left one failed pancake on the floor...

Kissat uuninpankolla. Joka kartanossa tarvittiin kissoja pitämään hiiret ja rotat loitolla.

The cats enjoying the warmth of the fireplace. Cats were needed in every manor to get rid of rats and mice.
